Embracing Light: The Divinity of Jesus Explained

Before there was a manger, there was the Word; before Jesus walked among us, He was already God. The Creator stepped into His creation, bringing light into our darkness so that we could know God personally.

 

Dear Heavenly Father, as I open Your Word, quiet every distraction and prepare my heart to hear Your voice. Help me see and understand who Jesus truly is, the eternal Word, the Creator, the Light, and the One who became flesh and dwelt among us. Give me wisdom to understand what I read, humility to receive Your truth, and faith to apply it to my life. Let Your light expose anything that keeps me from You, and help me see Jesus more clearly through this passage. In Jesus Name Amen

Bible Verse:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it. There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him. 

He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light. The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him. But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.John 1:1-14″

  • These verses introduce the foundation of Christian faith by revealing who Jesus truly is. John begins by identifying Jesus as “the Word” (Logos), declaring that He existed from the beginning, was with God, and was God. This affirms Christ’s eternal nature and full divinity, He is not a created being, but the Creator Himself. Everything that exists came into being through Him, and in Him is life, the source of all light and truth.
  • The passage contrasts light and darkness, showing that while darkness opposes God’s truth, it cannot overcome it. John the Baptist is introduced not as the light, but as a witness who points others to Christ. This emphasizes that salvation comes not through human effort or lineage, but through believing in Jesus.
  • Verses 10–13 highlight humanity’s response to Christ: many rejected Him, even His own people, yet those who received Him were given the right to become children of God. This new birth is spiritual, rooted in God’s will rather than human achievement.
  • Verse 14 is the climax: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” God entered human history in Jesus, fully divine and fully human. His glory is revealed through grace and truth. John 1:1–14 teaches that Christianity rests on the incarnation; God personally stepped into our broken world to reveal Himself, redeem humanity, and invite us into a restored relationship with Him.
