Psalm 119:9–16

Bible turned to the Psalms

BETH

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought you.
Don’t let me wander from your commandments.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, Yahweh.
    Teach me your statutes.
13 With my lips,
I have declared all the ordinances of your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies,
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts,
    and consider your ways.
16 I will delight myself in your statutes.
I will not forget your word.

This emphasizes the power of God’s Word to guide, protect, and transform the believer. The psalmist asks, “How can a young person stay pure?” and answers: by living according to God’s commands. Scripture shapes the heart, directs choices, and guards against sin. Memorizing, meditating on, and delighting in God’s Word allows it to influence daily decisions, giving wisdom and strength. This passage encourages active engagement with Scripture, internalizing it, treasuring it, and walking faithfully, so that life reflects obedience, devotion, and love for God, even amid challenges and distractions.
