He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.


This verse teaches that life is sustained not only by physical food, but by dependence on God and His Word. Moses reminded Israel that God allowed hunger in the wilderness, then provided manna to show them that true survival comes from trusting Him. Bread feeds the body, but God’s commands nourish the soul, guide decisions, and strengthen faith. This verse reveals that human need goes deeper than material provision. Jesus later quoted it during His temptation, showing its lasting truth. It calls believers to rely daily on God’s voice, knowing His Word is essential for life and spiritual strength.
