Proverbs 21:23

Proverbs Bible

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

This verse emphasizes that people who carefully watch what they say will protect themselves from serious trouble. “Guarding your mouth and tongue” means seriously thinking before you speak instead of letting every thought fly out. Angry words, gossip, lies, or careless comments can start arguments, wreck friendships, damage your reputation, and leave you with regret. Once your words are spoken or posted they are hard to take back. This verse is not telling us to stay silent forever. It is telling us to think and that self-control in speech is a form of wisdom and self-protection. When we choose our words wisely, we keep our lives calmer and our relationships stronger.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, help me guard my mouth and my tongue today. Give me the wisdom and strength to think before I speak and the self-control to stay quiet when my words might hurt someone. Keep and direct me from trouble that comes from careless speech and dumb words. Teach me to use my words to build others up instead of tearing them down. In Jesus Name Amen.
