A nearly 1,000-pound alligator named Buddy who was a fan favorite at Gatorland in Orlando has succumbed to age and health issues. He was between 60 and 70 years old. Gatorland, a 110-acre theme park that began as a roadside attraction in 1949, announced Buddy’s death Wednesday, April 8. Buddy was the biggest alligator in Gatorland history at a length of 13 feet, 8 inches. “Buddy wasn’t just big, he was a legend,” the note on Gatorland’s Facebook page said. “Generations of families grew up with Buddy and kept coming back to see the Big Guy!” But Buddy, who was born at Gatorland, had begun to slow down over the past few months and was on and off medication.
