Rescue crews in Boulder County found a child who was swept away in St. Vrain Creek on Tuesday after searching for over an hour. Multiple agencies joined in the search for the 4-year-old boy, who went missing around 3 miles northwest of Lyons just before 5:30 p.m. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said the boy was with a relative when he fell into the water. The family member was initially unable to call for help due to a lack of cellphone service in the area. The child’s relative managed to find a place with service ten minutes later and called 911.

The BCSO provided an update later Tuesday night, stating the boy was one of two children who were initially playing in the water. One child escaped, but the 4-year-old could not get out of the creek on his own and was swept away. Rescue crews, including divers and drone operators, searched for the child for an hour and a half. He was found in critical condition around 7:07 p.m. and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
