Kamikaze squirrel goes flying in cannon blast for America 250, all he wanted to be was a flying squirrel 😄

He took escape plans to nutty new heights. An acrobatic squirrel in Brooklyn got so spooked when soldiers fired a ceremonial cannon Thursday morning, it hurled itself off a telephone pole — and lived to tell the tale, according to wild footage and officials. The freaked-out furball threw itself into the air kamikaze-style and plunged dozens of feet after Army members blasted the cannon to welcome a German warship at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn during America 250 celebrations ahead of the Fourth of July, military officials said. ‘“’I didn’t sign up for this,’— This squirrel, probably,” USAG Fort Hamilton hilariously posted, along with the footage, on Facebook Thursday. “Sorry for the early boom, Brooklyn! We promise it’s for a good cause. (The squirrel remains unconvinced.),” it added.

Maine high school students accidentally serve a dirt pie at a charity dinner

chocolate pie in close up photography

Teenagers are known for dishing out the dirt, but not quite like this. Students at a high school in Maine were fed potting soil at a community service event raising money to fight hunger, in a bizarre incident the school called “an unfortunate accident.” Students at Medomack Valley High School in Waldoboro had baked a batch of potting soil earlier that day during a science class experiment to determine the effect of sterilized soil on plant growth, according to a statement from the school. “The soil had been placed in a baking dish covered with foil and set off to the side of the stove area, separate from the Empty Bowl Supper food items,” the statement signed by principal Linda Pease read.

Later, in the mad dash to serve guests at the charity dinner, the oven-roasted dirt got mixed in with other food items meant for the meal and was brought out for service.
