A woman and a young girl fell from a chairlift ride in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Monday night. According to the Seaside Heights Fire Department, the incident happened around 8 p.m. on Sampson Avenue on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk. Police said the woman boarded the Sky Ride at the south end platform with her young niece and nephew. When their chair reached the north end platform, where it turns around, the woman dropped her phone.
As she tried to pick up the phone from the platform, police said the young girl was pushed off the chair and fell about 5 feet onto the sand below, according to the fire department. The aunt tried to grab the girl but slid off her seat and was left hanging from the still-moving chair. The ride was stopped, and the woman fell 12 to 13 feet onto a dune below, the fire department said. The young boy remained in the chair. Firefighters used an extension ladder to get him down about three minutes after the initial call, police said.
