Written by A Cottage Grove man was arrested by the Eugene Police Department (EPD) after police said he tried to force a vehicle out of a Eugene towing yard by ramming it into a gate, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage. At 4:47 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, Eugene police were called to a report of a disorderly subject at a towing company in the 100 block of Cleveland Street.
A caller told 911 that a man came to the location to retrieve a vehicle in a secured parking lot but was unable to pay for it, leading to an argument. Police said the man, later identified as Scott Lee Fergason, 54, climbed over a barbed-wire fence, got inside the vehicle and rammed the gate. A forklift was parked in front of the gate to block the vehicle from leaving. An officer arrived and arrested Fergason, who EPD said admitted to using methamphetamine that day.
