Written by A mother allegedly murdered her 2-year-old son just hours after discussing the Lindsay Clancy murder trial with her friends, which she had become “very invested” in. NBC Chicago reported that a neighbor called 911 on September 1 after discovering the 2-year-old victim hanging from a cord around his neck in the basement. The caller was reportedly performing CPR on the child as officers arrived, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to a hospital.
His cause of death was listed as “asphyxia due to ligature compression of the neck.” The caller said that there was also an infant in the house and two school-aged children arrived shortly after she did, but none of them were harmed. Authorities walked upstairs and found the victim’s mother, 40-year-old Corie Walsh, fully clothed in her bathtub suffering from self-inflicted knife wounds, police reported. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Walsh’s husband was reportedly out of state when the incident occurred. During questioning Walsh allegedly told police she “did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ’.”
She further confessed to murdering the child, per authorities. Witnesses reportedly told police that Walsh had recently become “very invested” in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial. Clancy was accused of murdering her three children and then attempting to kill herself, with her defense claiming that the mother was suffering from postpartum psychosis. Walsh was reportedly “actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends” just hours prior to the child’s death.
