Lee County residents looking to add a four-legged member to the family can adopt one for free Saturday as part of the 2026 Clear the Shelters campaign. Lee County Domestic Animal Services is waiving all adoption fees Saturday, Aug. 15, during its Clear the Shelters adoption event. The shelter has dogs and cats of different ages available for adoption. Every adopted pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going home with its new family. “Clear the Shelters is one of our favorite events of the year because it shines a spotlight on the incredible pets waiting for homes,” Lee County Domestic Animal Services Director Pablo Adorno said.
“Every adoption changes a pet’s life while creating space for another animal in need. We encourage the community to visit the shelter this August — you may just meet your new best friend.” The free adoption event is part of a monthlong effort to find homes for shelter animals. Through Aug. 31, adoption fees are reduced to $40 for dogs and $20 for cats with an approved application. Lee County Domestic Animal Services is joining more than 1,600 shelters and rescue groups nationwide in this year’s Clear the Shelters campaign. Adoptions take place at Lee County Domestic Animal Services at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers. Adoption hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
