Setting the Mind Above the Moment

a man in deep thought

Scripture: Colossians 3:2
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

What we surround ourselves with determines how we live. Living a Biblical perspective is a discipline. Living this way requires intentional focus on Christ when worries demand our attention. Our mind must be trained to return to truth even when anxiety pulls it toward fear. When our thoughts are focused on heaven, our hearts become steadier. Fixing our minds on eternal truth doesn’t remove us from the world, it steadies us within it. Perspective shapes peace.

Our thoughts quietly shape our lives. What we dwell on determines our peace, our patience, and our perspective. Paul urges believers to set their minds on things above not as an escape from reality, but as an anchor within it. Christian perspective is a discipline. It takes an intentional focus on Christ when worries demand our attention. Our mind must be trained to return to truth when anxiety pulls it toward fear. When our thoughts rise toward heaven, our hearts become steadier and less movable on earth.

Peace does not always come come from changing our circumstances, but from changing what we are focusing.

Thoughts to Ponder:
What thought or concern has been dominating your mind, and how can you intentionally refocus it on Christ today?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, teach and show me how to guard my mind and redirect my thoughts. Help me focus on truth, hope, and Your presence above all else. In Jesus Name Amen

Living for What Lasts

earth

Scripture: Matthew 6:19–20

Living for eternity does not mean that we start ignoring our earthly responsibilities, it means that we allow eternal values to shape how we live today. Our time, relationships, generosity, and obedience all become sacred investments when we offer them to God. Jesus challenges us to consider where we are investing our lives. “Storing up Earthly treasures” promise and give us false security, but they do not endure. What we build for ourselves fades away; what we build with God endures.

Having an eternal perspective asks us to measure success not by accumulation, but by impact that lasts beyond this life. This is not saying that we earn our way to heaven, but when we have that relationship with Him we become lead by His example becoming more like Him.

Every choice we make is shaping something. Focusing on a “Jesus” like perspective will help us ask better questions: Is this drawing me closer to God? Is this building His Kingdom? Will this matter when eternity begins? Jesus warned us not to invest our lives in things that fade, rust, or fail. Having a Christian perspective reorders our priorities and asks one simple question: Will this matter forever? What we build for God outlasts what we build for ourselves. But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” (2 Timothy 2:19)

Say What:
What are you currently investing in, and will it still matter in eternity?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help me align my priorities with Your Kingdom. Show me how to live for what will last and invest my life wisely for eternity. In Jesus Name Amen

Strength Renewed, Not Exhausted

eagle

Scripture: Isaiah 40:31

Thoughts to Ponder:
Waiting on the Lord does not mean we’re standing still, it just means trusting God while He strengthens us. Waiting on Him is not passively standing down; it is a form of active trust. We are choosing to rely on God’s strength instead of endlessly drawing from reserves that are empty. An eternal perspective reminds us that burnout often comes from trying to sustain what only God can supply. Physical and mental exhaustion often comes when we live as if everything depends on us. Those who hope in Him exchange weakness for strength.

Tiredness, fatigue and exhaustion are not a signs of failure they are signals of humanity. When we read Isaiah he reminds us that even strong people can grow tired, but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. Having a perspective that leads us to trust God teaches us that we were never meant to sustain life by our own power alone. God never shames us for being tired. Instead He invites us to exchange our weakness for His strength.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22) When we lift our eyes beyond what immediately demands our attention and trust God’s eternal sufficiency, we’ll discover a complete and full endurance that does not come from effort alone, but from grace.

Discussion Prompt:
Where might God be inviting you to wait on Him instead of pushing through on your own strength?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, I confess and give you my weariness. Teach me to wait on You and receive the strength only You can give. Renew my soul today. In Jesus Name Amen

When Temporary Pain Feels Heavy

Broken
renewed

Scripture: Psalm 34:19
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Pain has a way of making everything feel permanent. When the suffering lingers, we can convince ourselves that this is how life will always be. The bible never pretends our pain is small. In Psalm 34 it openly acknowledges that the righteous face many afflictions. Yet it anchors that truth in an even greater promise: the Lord delivers.Eternal perspective reminds us that suffering is real, but it is not final. God sees every tear, every sleepless night, every prayer whispered through exhaustion. While deliverance from or afflictions may not always arrive on our timeline, it always arrives on God’s. He is never indifferent, never absent, and never unaware.

The Bible never minimizes our suffering, but highlights God’s faithfulness. Pain feels heavy when it stands alone, but when you approach it with the Bible it becomes bearable because it is carried in the hands of a faithful God. Deliverance may not be immediate, but it is always promised. When we hold pain in isolation, it feels unbearable. When we hold it before God, it becomes shared and therefore lighter. God does not ask us to minimize our hurt; He invites us to bring it honestly into His presence.

Hope grows when we remember that suffering has an expiration date, but God’s faithfulness does not.

Discussion Prompt:
How does knowing God sees your pain change the way you carry it today?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, You see my pain and You know my heart. Help me trust Your faithfulness when relief feels far away. Carry what I cannot. In Jesus Name Amen.

What We See vs. What Is Real

looking in a mirror

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:18

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen…”

Devotional Thought:
If we look at ourselves we can see that a lot of our stress comes from treating temporary things as though they were permanent. Paul reminds us that what we see is real, but not final. When we practice faith we train our eyes to see beyond the moment and trust the unseen work of God.

We all know how life constantly pulls our attention toward what we can see, measure, and feel. Bills arrive. Headlines shout. Social Media whines. Pain demands attention. None of these things are imaginary, but the bible lets us know they are not final. Paul emphasizes that believers need to fix their eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, because what is seen is temporary, while what is unseen is eternal.

Having an relationship with God does not deny reality; it reframes it. When we focus only on the things that we see, the pressure grows heavier and hope grows dim. But when we put our total trust on God and lift our eyes beyond the moment, we will begin seeing that God is always working in ways we do not immediately perceive. The unseen work of God; His presence, His promises, His power is just as real as what troubles us, and more permanent.

Faith is choosing to believe that God is active even when everything you see tells you something different. It is trusting that today’s struggle does not define tomorrow.

Something to Ponder:
What visible circumstance has been shaping your emotions more than your trust in God this week?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you Lord for being my guide, help me lift my eyes beyond what I can see. Teach me to trust Your unseen work and anchor my heart in Your truth. In Jesus Name Amen

Fear Loses Its Grip When God Is First

giant

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

“Seek first the kingdom of God…”

Devotion:
When God is set first, fear can never be in charge. Fear will always thrive when our priorities are misplaced. Jesus highlighted that when we seek God’s Kingdom first, everything else will fall into its proper place. Peace always follow proper order, “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” (James 3:16)

What practical change could you make to seek God first when fear begins to take control?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, as I come to the end of this week, I quiet my heart before You. I admit that fear has found places in my thoughts, decisions, and emotions. I have worried about tomorrow, carried burdens I was never meant to carry, and tried to control what only You can hold. Tonight, I pause and I remember:

  • You are with me.
  • You have not abandoned me.
  • You have not lost control.

Lord, shine Your light on every fear I’ve hidden, ignored, or normalized.
Reveal where fear has replaced trust and where anxiety has shaped my choices. I don’t want to live driven by fear I want to live and thrive being led by faith. Lord soften my heart.

  • Give me the courage to respond, not resist.
  • If You call me forward, help and give me the strength to step forward.
  • If You call me to surrender, help me to let go.

Jesus, I put You first again today. Align my heart with Your Kingdom. I choose to come ready and to lay my fears at Your feet and trust You with what frightens me, with what I cannot see and with my life. In Jesus Name Amen

Faith Is a Choice Before It Is a Feeling

Warrior in front of an army

Scripture: Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for…”

Devotion:
Our faith does not always or need to wait for fear to disappear. Faith can move while fear is still present. Choosing to trust God, faith, even when emotions lag behind, is an act of obedience. Having courage in the face of fear is not the absence of fear; it is trust and obedience in spite of it.

Thoughts to Ponder:

What would it look like for you to choose faith this week even if your feelings don’t immediately follow?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being an breakable wall and help me choose faith even when fear is loud. In Jesus Name Amen

Fear Distorts Reality

giant

Scripture: Numbers 13:33

“We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes…”

Devotion:
Fear has a way of making us feel small and enlarging everything else. When the Israelites saw the giants they didn’t lose the battle because the giants were too big they lost their perspective because God became too small in their thinking. When we allow fear to take over, we stop seeing ourselves as God’s called, strengthened, and upheld people. We then begin measuring life only by what we see. But the Bible reminds us that the everlasting God does not grow weary. We know that those who hope in Him rise up and do not shrink. Fear will fade away when we remember who God is and who we are because of Him.

Thoughts to Ponder:

In what way has fear caused you to see yourself as smaller or less capable than God says you are?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, correct my perspective when fear distorts the truth. Thank you for being my protector and guide when I need you. In Jesus Name Amen

Scripture: Matthew 6:34

Things to think about:

God’s Presence Is the Antidote to Fear

Dr in a Dr's office

Scripture: Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you.”

Devotion:
God does not say, Fear not, because nothing bad will happen. He says, “Fear not,” because He is with you. With His promise is He did say there is going to be an absence of trouble, but instead you’ll have the presence of God. Fear will shrink when we remember we are never alone. No matter what the day brings.

Thoughts to Ponder:

How would your response to today’s challenges change if you truly believed God was with you in every moment?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for always being there when I need you. God, help me live and always be aware of Your nearness today. In Jesus Amen.

Fear Is a Signal, Not a Sentence

Highway

Scripture: Psalm 56:3

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”

Devotion:
By itself fear is not sin it is a signal. Fear will get us into something that feels uncertain or out of our control. The main problem is not feeling fear, but following it. David never pretend fear didn’t exist; he redirected it toward trust. Today, let fear become a reminder to turn your attention toward God instead of inward toward overwhelming worry.

Something to think about

When fear shows up in your life, what does it usually push you toward trusting God or trying to handle things on your own?

Rest in God’s Presence

a sunset at a lake
Footprints on a beach

Scripture: Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.”

Devotion:
That consuming peace deepens when our minds remain fixed on God rather than focusing on our fears. This is a focus that doesn’t happen by accident it’s cultivated through time trusting Him. When we prepare our hearts for worship, we remember that peace is found not in answers, but in God’s presence.

Reflection:
How can you intentionally fix your mind on God today?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the peace you always give me. As we prepare for tomorrow, we come honestly before You. I acknowledge the fears I,ve carried, spoken and unspoken, seen and unseen. I confess that I have sometimes trusted news, circumstances, or my own understanding more than Your promises.

Tonight, I choose to lay those fears at Your feet. I open my heart to the peace that only You can give, the peace that does not depend on circumstances but rests in Your presence. Prepare my heart to respond to Your Word, soften what has grown hard, and quiet what has grown anxious.

Tomorrow, when You invite me, to surrender, to trust again, give me the courage to respond. Let this be a moment of release, healing, and renewal.
Guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and lead me into the freedom of Your peace. In Jesus Name Amen

Devotion:
Have you ever noticed that the majority of our fear comes from trying to control outcomes? God never meant for to manage these things that freak us out causing this fear. The Source of True Peace

distractions in the office

Scripture: John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.”

Devotion:
The world offers peace that depends on circumstances, when things are going good, peace stays; when they don’t, the peace disappears. Jesus offers a different kind of peace. His peace flows from who He is, not from what is going on around us. When we stay connected to Him, peace becomes a settled confidence rather than a fragile feeling. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27

Reflection:

From Anxiety to Prayer

Scripture: Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Devotion:
Anxiety is a form of misplaced focus. Paul does not condemn anxious thoughts, instead he redirects them. With every anxious thought becoming an invitation to pray. By bringing our fears to God, we shift the burden from our shoulders to His. Prayer is not a way to ignore reality; it places our reality in God’s hands.

Reflection:
What anxiety do you need to turn into prayer today?

Recognizing the Noise

News drive

Scripture: John 16:33

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Devotion:
Have you ever noticed that fear will only grow louder when we live constantly connected to the noise of this world. Watching the News, the differing opinions, and the endless updates can quietly shape our hearts more than we realize. If we read the red letters in the Bible we can see that Jesus never promised a trouble-free life. However, He did promise victory while walking through it when in the middle of it. Peace begins when we understand that the noise around us does not have the final word Christ does.

Reflection:
What voices have been shaping your thoughts lately?

“A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken“

fire

Scripture: Hebrews 12:25-29 See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven, whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.”

This phrase, “Yet once more” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Devotional Thought:
Everything we see, and around us in this world has an expiration date with only one exception the Kingdom of God. When earthly systems fail, governments, relationships, religions, and thoughts, God’s Kingdom will still be standing. We should not cling to fear because we belong to something eternal, something bigger, something that is everlasting.

Our gratitude grows when we remember what cannot be taken from us.

Reflection:
How does belonging to God’s Kingdom reshape your outlook?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me a Kingdom that cannot be shaken or destroyed. Teach me to live with gratitude.”

“Where Is Your Foundation?“

Hurricane

Scripture: Matthew 7:24–27 “Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell—and its fall was great.”

Devotional
Jesus reminds us that there are going to be storms that come to every house. He expresses the importance that there is not the absence of storms, but safety when we have the presence of a solid foundation. If there is to much shaking, there will be some, but it can reveal what we have built our lives on.

Now is the time to reinforce our foundation. We should not wait until after the storm passes.

God Sees Your Weariness

An overwhelmed man

Psalm 61:2

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I”

When you feel overwhelmed and your strength is gone, God does not look away. He sees the exhaustion that others have overlooked, the quiet fatigue of carrying burdens too long. The bible reminds us that when our hearts are overwhelmed, God lifts us to a higher place. You don’t have to climb your way back to regain strength; you only have to cry out. Know that weariness is not weakness, it is your signal to lean on God’s strength instead of your own. Today, be honest with yourself, be honest with God. He is not disappointed by your tiredness. He is near to it, and there for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, lift me above the noise. Help me to block out the noise, to ignore the chaos, and see things the way You see them. Take these overwhelmed feelings and place me under your pinions and renew me. Thank you Lord. In Jesus Name Amen

Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.

David invites God to search his heart, not to condemn him, but to lead him. Psalm 139:23–24 models courageous humility welcoming God’s examination and correction. When we ask God to reveal hidden sin or harmful ways, He does so with love. This prayer opens the door to transformation, repentance, and deeper intimacy. Let God search you today, trusting Him to guide you in the everlasting way marked by grace, truth, and lasting peace.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, protect me from deception and ground me in your truth. Help so that I do not believe everything that makes me feel good. Help me to always be able to discern what is truth and what is deceptive. In Jesus Name Amen.

Proverbs 12:1

corrected
corrected

Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.

The Bible teaches teaches that loving discipline is a sign of wisdom, not weakness. Correction can sting, but it shapes character and protects us from greater harm. Those who reject instruction close the door to growth. A humble heart welcomes guidance, knowing God often uses others to refine us. When we embrace correction, we choose maturity over pride and allow God to form us into people who walk wisely and live well.

Holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.

As believers we are called to hold firmly to sound doctrine so truth shapes both belief and behavior. Faithfulness is not passive it requires commitment to God’s Word amid pressure and error. When truth is cherished, it strengthens conviction, encourages others, and gently corrects what is false. Stay rooted in Scripture. A steady grip on truth guards your heart and equips you to lead, serve, and stand with clarity, courage, and grace.
