The Senate on Thursday defeated a proposed Voter ID amendment amid the ongoing efforts by Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE America Act. The chamber voted 52-47 in favor of the amendment, though it needed 60 votes, The Hill reported. Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, introduced the amendment. His effort comes as he faces a tense battle in Ohio to serve a full term. Husted replaced JD Vance in the Senate after Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, tapped him for the role. He was previously the state’s lieutenant governor. The SAVE America Act has become a sore spot for some Senate Republicans as leadership has resisted calls to reform or terminate the filibuster to pass the marquis bill.
