Trenton Bogenreif was arrested Saturday night and booked on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking of $5,000 or more. Police say the package held six high-value football and basketball cards a collector had purchased online. The Wembanyama card was valued at $20,000-$25,000. The list of cards reported stolen included:
2025 Bowman Chrome Autographed Orange Mojo Victor Wembanyama
2025 Donruss Optic Uptown White Sparkle – Quinshon Judkins
2020 Panini Absolute Kaboom – Patrick Mahomes/Tom Brady
2013 Cracked Ice Prizm – Drew Brees, No. 140
2014 Chrome Sepia Refractor – Tom Brady
The buyer told police the package was supposed to arrive Saturday but was never delivered. Officers were called to the post office shortly after 9 PM on a report of larceny. An LPD report says investigators believe Bogenreif found the cards in an open box in a back room of the facility and took them. One of the cards later appeared for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Lincoln Police public information manager Erika Thomas said online contact with the seller led to a buy-bust.
“Online communication with the seller let to an arranged purchase around 11:15 PM with plain clothed officers,” Thomas said. “They met the suspect at WarHorse Casino where he was ultimately taken into custody.” Police say the arranged deal was for the Wembanyama and Judkins cards for $20,000. Both were confiscated by police. Four other cards from the package have not been recovered, including cards of Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Officers believe those cards were already sold or traded at a card show in the Omaha area. Bogenreif remains in jail. The investigation is ongoing.
