Fetterman calls Zohran Mamdani a ‘clown’ over push to arrest Netanyahu in New York City

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman took fresh aim at New York City Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Sunday, branding him a “clown” over his repeated interest in having Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if he visits New York for the United Nations General Assembly this September. “[He’s] such a tough guy to say that kind of thing. He has no way to do that,” Fetterman said on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “America’s not even part of that corrupt court,” he continued, referring to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.

Fetterman Warns Mamdani Risks ‘Constitutional Crisis’ By Vowing To Defy Scotus Immigration Ruling “He’s [Mamdani is] just a clown to even say that, so he won’t try that. Just sit down and focus on other… problems that they have in New York. That’s really not your purview. You and I know that. Sit down.” Mamdani has repeatedly said he would seek to have Netanyahu arrested if the Israeli leader travels to New York City, citing the International Criminal Court’s November 2024 arrest warrant accusing Netanyahu of war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from Israel’s war against Hamas. Most recently, the far-left mayor said his administration is actively exploring whether the city has the legal authority to arrest Netanyahu, calling him a “war criminal” who “belongs in The Hague,” during an interview with The New York Times.

Netanyahu has denied the allegations, and Israel rejects the ICC’s jurisdiction over the matter. Sen John Fetterman Pledges To Be ‘Last Man Standing’ In The Democratic Party In Support Of Israel The United States is not a party to the Rome Statute that established the ICC and does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction over U.S. citizens or Israeli officials. Fox News Digital previously reached out to the mayor’s office asking whether Mamdani stands by calling Netanyahu a “war criminal,” whether City Hall is actively consulting with the Law Department regarding possible legal action against the Israeli leader and whether the mayor would direct the NYPD to arrest Netanyahu if attorneys determined the city had legal authority. The mayor’s office did not immediately respond, however.

Fetterman and McCormick form bipartisan joint fundraising committee

Pennsylvania’s two U.S. senators have teamed up to form a joint fundraising committee to raise money for their campaigns in an unusual display of bipartisanship — and one that may not actually be meant to generate funds. Common Ground PA filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Monday. The joint fundraising committee lists both Fetterman and McCormick’s leadership PACs as well as their principal campaign committees as the participants. “The joint fundraising committee is specifically just for raising money,” said Brendan Glavin, the director of insights for non-partisan political transparency organization OpenSecrets. In a joint fundraising committee, only the participants are allowed to receive money donated to the committee.

“They can’t make contributions to other candidates or other PACs.”  Fetterman is up for reelection in the 2028 cycle, while McCormick is not up for reelection until 2030. The most recent FEC filings show Fetterman for PA has about $1.99 million in cash on hand, while McCormick has about $954,000.  Politico was the first to note the joint fundraising committee’s formation earlier this week. When KDKA-TV asked if he’d ever seen campaigns from opposite sides of the aisle form a joint fundraising committee, Glavin said, “I’m not gonna say it’s never happened, but certainly, I was definitely very surprised to see that.”  Glavin said the campaigns may be trying to appeal to a certain kind of donor, and the committee may be more about messaging than money. “The goal may be more to present both of them as being people who are willing to work with the other side. That is something that is attractive to voters, to say ‘I’m not part of this hyper-partisan problem that we have in our country.'”  But Glavin also said the message may have niche appeal. “Certainly most of your donors are not gonna be keen on the idea of giving their money to basically the opposite side of where they stand.”  Neither Fetterman nor McCormick has positive approval with Pennsylvania voters. A Quinnipiac poll in February 2026 found 46% approve of Fetterman’s job performance overall, while 37% approve of McCormick’s handling of his job. Fetterman has also come under fire from within his own party.

Fetterman tells those who backed Platner to “sit it out” on a possible replacement

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania said members of the party who helped prop up Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner amid a string of scandals should not play a role in selecting his potential replacement if he drops out of the race.  “Many of these people that put someone like Platner in this seat right now, sit it out,” Fetterman said in an interview with “The Takeout with Major Garrett” on Tuesday.  Fetterman condemned his colleagues in Congress and others who continued backing Platner after problematic internet comments he made years ago came to light, his admission that he once had a tattoo widely associated with a Nazi emblem, and allegations of sexually explicit texts and concerning behavior toward women.

A Maine woman he previously dated, Jenny Racicot, told Politico and CNN that Platner sexually assaulted her in 2021 — which Platner denied — leading the candidate to lose the support of top Democrats. Among those who called for Platner to drop out was Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent, who said in a statement Tuesday that he spoke with Platner “about the best path forward for Maine” and “recommended that he step aside.”  “How have we arrived here?” Fetterman said. “That I think is an important thing to explore and the people that really made that possible … hold them accountable too.”  Fetterman specifically called out Sanders, saying he put Platner on the map “more than anyone.”  In an interview with Fox News on Monday, Fetterman called on Sanders “to apologize to the victims.”
