The automaker is recalling 440,830 of the vehicles and said a software flaw could trigger side airbags to deploy unexpectedly when the vehicles encounter minor roadway issues such as speed bumps, increasing the risk for injury, Fox Business reported Thursday. Honda said there were 130 warranty claims and 25 reported injuries related to the problem.

The vehicles affected were the 2018 to 2022 models manufactured between late January 2017 and early June of 2022. Dealerships have said they will not charge owners to have the defect addressed and fixed. As of Thursday, owners can look up their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, ABC 10 reported. “The recall is largely precautionary, with NHTSA estimating only about 0.1% of recalled cars will actually experience the airbag defect, ” the outlet said. “Honda began alerting dealers to the recall last Friday, and the car company expects to issue its notices to car owners on May 25.” The Fox article said safety regulators mentioned Honda may have been aware of the problem days before it was reported.

“Please be reminded that under Federal law, this agency is to be notified of all safety defect and/or noncompliance decisions within five business days. … Significant civil penalties can be assessed for this violation,” NHTSA said. In June, Honda recalled nearly 260,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a faulty brake pedal that could raise the risk of a crash or injury,

Breitbart News reported: Reuters reports this recall affects specific models, including the 2021-2025 Acura TLX, 2023-2025 Acura MDX, and 2023-2025 Honda Pilot. Car owners are advised to stay informed about developments to ensure their safety on the road. There have been three warranty claims related to the recall and no reported injuries or deaths linked to the matter, according to the Japanese manufacturing giant. Months later, the automaker recalled over 400,000 of its Civics due to a wheel defect risk that could cause the wheels to fall off the cars, per WLTX.

‘Hazardous’: Nail polish remover sold on Amazon recalled

a person applying a nail polish

Thousands of bottles of nail polish remover sold on Amazon have been recalled after hazardous substances that are “strictly prohibited” were detected in the product, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Morovan gel nail polish remover was found to have methylene chloride and chloroform in it, which officials said “is a concern because it has been shown to cause cancer in animals and is likely harmful to human health.” Methylene chloride is a prohibited ingredient in the U.S. and “is not allowed in cosmetics at any level under FDA regulations,” according to the FDA. Anyone who purchased the nail polish remover was urged to stop using it “immediately,” label the bottle with the word “recalled” on it and safely dispose of it. The company asked customers to then submit a photo of the disposal. “Following proper disposal, kindly take a photograph of the discarded product (clearly showing the ‘Recalled’ label and the product itself) and submit the image via email to our customer service team for verification,” the company wrote in its recall notice. “The designated email address for submission is: customer-service@morovan.com.” According to Morovan, about 4,000 bottles were included in the recall.

GM recalls more than 270,000 cars in U.S. over rearview camera risk

Recall sign

General Motors is recalling more than 270,000 vehicles in the U.S. over a problem with their rearview cameras. The cameras on certain 2023-2025 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles may display blank or distorted images, posing a risk to drivers, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). “A rearview image that does not display correctly reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” the safety alert notes.

Only about 6% of the vehicles under recall have faulty cameras, according to the recall report. GM’s camera supplier, Sharp Electronics, identified an issue with the bonding process used to build the camera housing that could weaken the adhesive material on some assemblies.  GM also found that the mounting configuration of the Sharp camera on the Chevrolet Malibu could expose it to moisture that may penetrate the housing. The automaker indicated it is not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with the defect. GM will mail letters to owners of potentially affected vehicles on May 18, according to NHTSA. Owners can bring their cars to GM dealerships, which will replace the rearview cameras free of charge.
