History Repeats Itself

Photo by Engin Akyurt on Pexels.com

If we do not pay attention history, because of human nature, history will repeat itself over and over again. There have been moves to erase the disgusting tragedies that have happened throughout history, yes it is appalling I agree. But if we do not know or study how it happened why it happened or what led up to it we’ll never see if it is happening again.

“Disregard for the past will never do us any good. Without it we cannot know truly who we are.”

Syd Moore

When these things get destroyed, erased, or changed to fit an agenda we are experiencing a tragedy that cannot be repaired. We can recover some of the lost information but never in its original content. We are told that when we get to know God however we need to:

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV

These are directions for when we become new believers. We need to understand that because of God’s grace, even though we do not deserve it You have been forgiven, you have and Advocate, Jesus Christ, who is your personal representative .

If we always focus on all of the bad that we have done in the past, because non of us are perfect I know I am not, we will drive ourselves crazy. The devil will always use your past to whisper in your ear constantly reminding you how there is noway you are good enough and that you are too bad.

But on the opposite side of the issue He never tells us to forget our past. What has happened throughout history we are told that we need to know and not forget. Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you. Deuteronomy 32:7

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. 1 Corinthians 10:11

“I charge you, examine every statement you hear from Christian pulpits and platforms; I charge you, sift and try every religious book by the great standard of the word of God.”

Charles Spurgeon

Pay Attention

Right know there is a movement to fundamentally change history, society, and faith. Statues are being toppled in the name of justice. It is being done through a need to make things better, being disguised as love. As Christians we need to make sure that we are paying attention making sure that it is being done out of love through God’s eyes not love through human want and desire.

A Need to Control

Throughout history we can see the want for a human utopia, which we had and was destroyed by human desire. People want a society where everyone is taken care of, everyone gets along and no one goes hungry. In the 4th Century BCE Plato wrote about it in the “Republic“, in 1516 “Utopia” was written by Thomas More detailing an ideal society where the government controlled everything for the good of the people. Finally; the most cited book on the topic that is currently being cited is Karl Marx’s book the “Communist Manifesto.”

What about Religion

There are those who will point out that Christian’s are not innocent in the atrocities that have happened throughout history. I want to point out first that Jesus taught that we need to love each other and turn the other check. These things that where done in the name of Jesus were done through peoples want to control and ultimate domination.

In the Encyclopedia of Wars a 3 Volume Set Charles Phillips, it says that about 7% of war have been attributed to religion. There are a few things that look too of been missed and the number looks to be closer to about 25%. So claims from some popular writers and historians that the majority of wars is caused by religion is based on opinion and a personal agenda.

To Love is to Accept Everything? A Warning

There are “churches” right now that are telling their congregations to accept everything and love it all, which is opposite of what we have been told in the bible.  We have been told to pay attention so that we are not deceived by the ambitions of our human selfishness. This is not a new thing they dealt with it in the past, it is mentioned in Revelation 2:12-17 because of a group called the Nicolaitans.

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 29:8-9

Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously and looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ [which will bring you] to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy but with fear, loathing even the clothing spotted and polluted by their shameless immoral freedom. Jude 1:21-23 AMP

Remember

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 1 John 5:19 ESV If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. John 15:19 ESV

Something to Think About, Do Not Be Deceived

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1ESV If we do not know the bible the devil will use whatever he can to deceive you, slick talkers, quotes you want to hear, and condemnation. Read the account of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness in Matthew 4:1-25. This will show you that the devil even went as far as to try and use the bible to make everything he was saying to Jesus legitimate. Make sure that you read and know the bible so that for your sake you are never deceived by smooth talkers. By all means do not believe anything that I am saying or for that matter anybody else look to Gods word and compare it to all that you have been told and heard. If it does not match, if it has been added to, and if it is at all questionable, IT IS NOT FROM GOD AND IT IS NOT RIGHT!

How To Be Protected from Deception

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, too stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:10-20 ESV

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, please give me insight and wisdom to make sure that I am never deceived. Thank you for the word that you have given me to fight off false teaching, people who try to twist Your words and those who use it to fulfill an agenda. Lord always cover me with your armor in Ephesians 6 protect me from those who have been deceived and always show me the direction that you want me to go. In Jesus Amen

Daily Bread

Breaking bread

Daily Bread Psalm 119:105

Daily Verse

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 ESV

Manipulation

Satan prompts men to excesses by which they murder themselves and others, while what he puts into the mind tends to ruin men’s souls. He is the great promoter of falsehood of every kind. He is a liar, all his temptations are carried on by his calling evil good, and good evil, and promising freedom in sin. He is the author of all lies; whom liars resemble and obey, with whom all liars shall have their portion for ever. The special lusts of the devil are spiritual wickedness, the lusts of the mind, and corrupt reasonings, pride and envy, wrath and malice, enmity to good, and enticing others to evil. By the truth, here understand the revealed will of God as to the salvation of men by Jesus Christ, the truth Christ was now preaching, and which the Jews opposed.    Matthew Henrys Concise Commentary

Who were the Nicolaitans

Dear Heavenly Father, as I get to know You more Lord, I am amazed the love that You have for me. Please soften my heart and please allow the Holy Spirit to guide me and help me understand everything that You have in these words. Show me how to apply this message in my life. In Jesus Name Amen

Nicolaitans:

nik-ṓ-lā´i-tanz Νικολαΐταί, Nikolaitaı́

A sect or party of evil influence in early Christianity, especially in the 7 churches of Asia. Their doctrine was similar to that of Balaam, “who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication” (Rev_2:14-15). Their practices were strongly condemned by John, who praised the church in Ephesus for “hating their works” (Rev_2:6), and blamed the church in Pergamum for accepting in some measure their teaching (Rev_2:15). Except that reference is probably made to their influence in the church at Thyatira also, where their leader was “the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess” (Rev_2:20; compare Rev_2:14), no further direct information regarding them is given in Scripture.

Reference to them is frequent in post-apostolic literature. According to Irenaeus (Adv. Haer., i. 26, 3; iii. 10, 7), followed by Hippolytus (Philos., vii. 36), they were founded by Nicolaus, the proselyte of Antioch, who was one of the seven chosen to serve at the tables (Act_6:5). Irenaeus, as also Clement of Alexandria (Strom., ii. 20), Tertullian and others, unite in condemning their practices in terms similar to those of John; and reference is also made to their Gnostic tendencies. In explanation of the apparent incongruity of such an immoral sect being founded by one of “good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom” (compare Act_6:3), Simcox argues that their lapse may have been due to reaction from original principles of a too rigid asceticism. A theory, started in comparatively modern times, and based in part on the similarity of meaning of the Greek “Nikolaus,” and the Hebrew “Balaam,” puts forward the view that the two sects referred to under these names were in reality identical. Yet if this were so, it would not have been necessary for John to designate them separately.

The problem underlying the Nicolaitan controversy, though so little direct mention is made of it in Scripture, was in reality most important, and concerned the whole relation of Christianity to paganism and its usages. The Nicolaitans disobeyed the command issued to the Gentile churches, by the apostolic council held at Jerusalem in 49-50 AD, that they should refrain from the eating of “things sacrificed to idols” (Act_15:29). Such a restriction, though seemingly hard, in that it prevented the Christian communities from joining in public festivals, and so brought upon them suspicion and dislike, was yet necessary to prevent a return to a pagan laxity of morals. To this danger the Nicolaitans were themselves a glaring witness, and therefore John was justified in condemning them. In writing to the Corinthians, Paul gives warning against the same evil practices, basing his arguments on consideration for the weaker brethren (compare 1Co_8:1-13).

The Jerusalem council (Act_15:20; Act_15:29), while releasing Gentile converts from legalism, required their abstinence from idol meats and associated fornication. The Nicolaitans abused Paul’s doctrine of the grace of God into lasciviousness; such seducers are described as followers of Balsam, also in 2Pe_2:12-19; Jude_1 (“the son of Bosor” for Beor, to characterize him as “son of carnality”: bosor “flesh”). They persuaded many to escape obloquy by yielding as to “eating idol meats,” which was then a test of faithfulness (compare 1 Corinthians 8 and 1Co_10:25-33); they even joined in the “fornication” of the idol feasts, as though permitted by Christ’s “law of liberty.” The “lovefeasts” (Jud_1:12) thus became pagan orgies. The Nicolaitans combined evil “deeds” which Jesus “hates” with evil “doctrine.”
