An Illinois woman who claimed she was detained by ICE for nearly two days was actually relaxing at a hotel getting spa treatments, according to a $1 million defamation suit filed by a county sheriff.  US citizen Sundas “Sunny” Naqvi, 28, gained national attention last month when she and a band of supporters — including Cook County, Ill., Commissioner Kevin Morrison — publicly insisted she was unlawfully detained by ICE officers for roughly 43 hours.  Naqvi claimed that after landing back in the US from a work trip to Turkey on the morning of March 5, she was detained for nearly 30 hours at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, then transferred to another ICE facility in Broadview, Ill., before winding up at Dodge County Jail in Wisconsin.

Student suspended for pro-ICE flyer while teacher’s union spends $1.7M to help anti-ICE protests

Astudent at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego was suspended after posting a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement flyer reading, “We [heart] ICE – Real Americans,” following an anti-ICE walkout on campus, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.

Student-led anti-ICE walkouts have continued to rise nationwide. In 2026 alone, more than 300 such walkouts and protests have taken place. Various organizations have led training programs within K–12 schools, and the National Education Association has provided $1.7 million in funding to a May Day 2026 training toolkit that includes anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement messaging, according to an investigation by Defending Education.

A “Four Weeks of Power” training series is organized and led by Free the Future, the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools, New York University’s Steinhardt Metro Center and the Midwest Academy.

Torrey Pines school officials reportedly claimed the student’s flyer was “harassment” and “intimidation,” leading to the student’s suspension and prompting concerns from free speech advocates.

“Schools cannot favor one viewpoint over another. When students express themselves non-disruptively, the First Amendment guarantees their right to freedom of speech, regardless of what opinion they share,” Conor Fitzpatrick, senior attorney at FIRE, told The Center Square.

Tom Homan says ICE will keep assisting TSA “until the airports feel like they are 100%”

Tom Homan, the Trump administration border czar, said Sunday that although President Trump signed an order to pay Transportation Security Administration workers, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will continue to assist “until the airports feel like they are 100%.”  “Look, we’re going to continue a nice presence there, and until the airports feel like they’re 100%, you know, in a posture where they can do no normal operations,” Homan said Sunday on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.”  Congress has yet to approve funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which has been shut down for more than 40 days. Early Friday morning, the Senate passed a bill to fund DHS that did not include money for ICE and other immigration removal. The House rejected that bill and instead passed its own version, which would extend funding for the entire department, including ICE, for 60 days. The dueling bills leave the shutdown without an end in sight.

Over the weekend, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested criminal illegal aliens convicted for murder, aggravated sexual assault of a child and rape.“While Americans enjoyed their weekend, the brave men and women of ICE law enforcement were working hard to remove criminal illegal aliens from our communities, including murderers, pedophiles, rapists, child abusers, gang members and other depraved criminals,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “Under President Trump, the safety of the American people comes FIRST. Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of criminal illegal aliens with charges or convictions in the U.S.”

Travelers at a Houston airport voiced shock and disbelief over seemingly endless TSA security lines caused by a severe staffing shortage.  “This is insane,” one traveler said. “This is the first time I’ve experienced something like this in my entire life,” said another. The line at George Bush Intercontinental Airport snaked underground, across terminals and even outside as 36% of TSA officers there called out of work amid a partial government shutdown that has frozen their paychecks.
