A Washington, D.C., police lieutenant was arrested in Maryland and charged with sexual solicitation of a minor, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.  Records show that 47-year-old Lt. Matthew Mahl was arrested by deputies on Tuesday. He also faces charges of soliciting child pornography.  According to charging documents, Mahl tried to meet up with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old boy for sexual activity.  A judge ordered Mahl to be held without bail Wednesday. WJZ has reached out to Mahl’s attorney for comment.  According to D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Lt. Mahl was placed on administrative leave, and his police powers were revoked after Harford County Sheriff’s officials contacted MPD’s Internal Affairs Division about the arrest.  “The allegations in this case are extremely disturbing, and in direct contrast with the values of the Metropolitan Police Department,” officials said in a statement.

New Hampshire teacher resigns after alleged inappropriate communication with students online

close up of a smartphone screen displaying social media app folder

A Salem, New Hampshire High School teacher has resigned after allegations of inappropriate interactions with students on social media.  “Definitely surprised. It just kind of hurts because he was a very liked teacher,” said senior Thomas Mallous. The district confirmed that the Salem Police Department has been notified and that a criminal investigation is underway. In a statement, Superintendent Maura Palmer said parents of students directly affected were notified immediately. The broader school community was informed of the teacher’s resignation on April 14. Parents described the situation as troubling. “I think it’s inappropriate,” said parent Inna Gacevic.

“I think we need to be careful with our kids on social media, definitely. I have kids on social media, but I make sure that we don’t interact with teachers outside of school in that way.” The Salem School District has a strict social media policy for staff. According to the policy, teachers are prohibited from “friending” students or sharing social media content unrelated to academic work. Community members say those rules are critical but acknowledge the challenges of enforcement. “It’s hard to keep track of that,” another parent said. “We can’t know what every teacher is doing outside of school or what every student is doing, but I think, for ethical reasons, as a teacher, you don’t do that.” Mallous said interactions between teachers and students on social media should be off-limits. “It should be rule number one of being a teacher never interact with your students online,” Mallous said. “It’s just not acceptable.”

Man in ski mask tried to lure Boston student into van during morning recess, police say

stop sign on school bus

Boston Police are investigating what they’re calling an “attempted abduction” outside the Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School in Roxbury on Thursday morning. According to a police report, a female student was playing on the playground during morning recess when a light-skinned man with hazel eyes in a ski mask spoke to her from a gray, scratched-up minivan. She told police he offered her money and asked her to come in the van.  When she screamed, school administrators responded and the man drove away. The incident happened at the intersection of Shirley and Dudley Streets. “This morning, an individual unknown to the school community attempted to engage with a student who was in the recess yard,” an email sent to parents from the school began. Several parents showed up to school early to pick up their kids due to safety concerns after receiving the email. “They said there was nothing to worry about,” one mother said. “They are trying to make it sound like a very small incident. But child abduction is a very big incident.”

Criminal investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office have charged Joel Ernest Lulinski, 52, of Cleveland, with multiple felony counts after he allegedly used his cell phone to record underneath the clothing of minors at Lanier Christian Academy. Lulinski, a former physical education teacher and football coach at the Flowery Branch private school, faces 27 counts of the felony crime of using or installing a device to record underneath or through an individual’s clothing under certain circumstances.

According to authorities, all of the victims are female students at the academy and were under the age of 16 at the time of the incidents. The investigation began on April 2, 2026, when one of the victims reported her suspicions to school officials. The officials immediately contacted a Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was working extra duty at the school.  The report was quickly passed on to the agency’s Criminal Investigations Bureau, which launched a probe into Lulinski’s activities. Over the following 12 days, investigators determined that Lulinski had used his cell phone on multiple occasions to take inappropriate and surreptitious photos or videos of minors during normal school activities.

Family claims Fort Worth man shot ‘pedophile’ in groin to protect nieces

man shooting at indoor gun range in sao paulo

FORT WORTH, Texas – A man is in the custody of Fort Worth police after being accused of shooting another man in the groin. His family claims he was protecting his underage nieces from a man allegedly soliciting them for sex. Fort Worth man arrested Markus Renfro, 33, is in jail Saturday. His family members are explaining why he shot another man in the groin, and why they don’t think he deserves to be in jail. Dontavius Williams, Renfro’s brother-in-law, says he knew something wasn’t right.

What they’re saying: “My little cousin told me that the dude said, ‘Oh, come back and smoke some meth with me,’ you know, ‘have some drugs,’” Williams said. The family said this wasn’t the first time. Fort Worth police say officers had already been called to the 3700 block of Century Place on Friday morning after receiving reports of a man who was possibly under the influence soliciting children for sex. “We had already heard that a certain dude had been messing with other little kids around here,” Williams said. That’s when they say Renfro stepped in.
