6-year-old Pennsylvania girl holding art auctions to raise money childhood cancer patients

patient lying in bed

Life for a child should be a time of wonder and discovery, but children with cancer are sometimes robbed of those wonders. A 6-year-old girl from Pennsylvania is making it her mission to help those patients through art.  It all started when Kaylin Lundell, who loves to draw and color, was in the car with her mom and a commercial for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which specializes in care for kids with cancer, came on the radio. “She wanted to do something about it, and I wanted to support her,” said Kaylin’s mom Tea Lundell.

That’s when Tea Lundell said she came up with “a conspiracy of kindness.” She proposed an art auction to raise money for St. Jude’s. The artists would be children, just like her daughter.  “Right now, we have four businesses that we have scheduled the event for, they are fully committed,” she said.  The kids can draw whatever they want. Then it’s up to the highest bidder to claim the creation. The money collected is all going to St. Jude’s.  Kaylin Lundell said she’s trying to raise $100,000. She sad she wants the kids to enjoy something other than fear and pain.  “Kids should just dream about other kids, being a kid and having ice cream after dinner from their parents,” she said.  Kids who make art for the auction will have their creations embossed with the official seal of Kaylin Lundell’s Draw for a Dream campaign. They’ll also have a signed certificate of authenticity.

Eye drops sold at Walgreens, CVS recalled over safety concerns, FDA says

Recall sign

A pharmaceutical company has issued a voluntary recall of over 3 million of its over-the-counter eye-drop products after the Food and Drug Administration cited a “lack of assurance of sterility.”

According to the FDA notice, K.C. Pharmaceuticals, of Pomona, California, manufactures the products for a number of brands sold under names such as “Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops,” “Sterile Eye Drops” and “Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops.” The recall of 3,111,072 bottles began in early March.

The eye drops are sold at major retailers, including CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.

There aren’t reports of injuries associated with the eye drops yet. The FDA notice classified the action as a “Class II recall.” Class II recalls apply to products that can cause “temporary or medically reversible” health problems.People can continue using their medication during a Class II recall unless stated otherwise by the company, according to the FDA.

The Cobb County Police Department has confirmed that two people were killed Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound I-75 near Hickory Grove Road. The crash happened around 8:34 a.m., according to the department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit. Preliminary reports show a red 2023 Freightliner Cascadia truck, operated by 28-year-old Zory Beavers of Conyers, struck a white 2019 Freightliner Cascadia driven by 62-year-old Verlon Henley of Fairburn. Beavers was driving with 42-year-old Royan Osborne of Norcross as a passenger. After the first collision, Beavers’ truck continued north, rolled onto its left side, and hit the sound barrier wall on the right shoulder. A white 2018 Ram 3500 pulling a flatbed trailer, driven by 48-year-old Arkino Walker of White, then collided with the rear of the trailer and ended up across the northbound lanes. Beavers and Osborne were pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner. Henley and Walker were not injured. Authorities have notified the victims’ next of kin. The STEP Unit said the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact Cobb County Police. Papa John’s, which confirmed one of its tractor-trailers was involved, said in a statement that it is cooperating with authorities.  “The safety of our team members and the communities we serve is a top priority,” the company said. “Our thoughts are with all those who may be affected, and we will continue to support the investigation as it moves forward.”

Louisiana firefighter rescues dog from mobile home fire

red and white fire truck

CARENCRO, La. (KLFY) — A family and its dogs were rescued from a mobile home fire Sunday morning, and the Carencro Fire Department has released video of one of the dogs being taken out of the burning structure. The Carencro Fire Department, along with Lafayette and Scott Fire Departments, responded Sunday to a reported house fire at 649 Braquet Road in Lafayette Parish with possible people and animals trapped inside. The homeowner confirmed that all occupants were out, but said one of the family’s dogs was still inside the bedroom.

During the fire, Firefighter/Operator Jake Richard conducted a search and successfully located the family dog, “Chop,” removing him safely from the home. After getting Chop out, Jake returned inside to assist crews with extinguishing the remaining fire, officials said. The Carencro Fire Department released video of the rescue in a post on its official Facebook page. “This helmet camera footage gives a firsthand look at the conditions firefighters face when operating inside a house fire with zero visibility, in a home they had never been in, while fire conditions continued to worsen and temperatures kept rising,” the post read. Watch video of the rescue below.

State backs criminals and takes away pepper spray, non-lethal tools from Tewksbury Hospital security. Nurse says, “We feel abandoned.”

security personnel patrolling indoor mall area

Last week the WBZ I-Team reported that the Department of Public Health was proposing taking away non-lethal tools from security officers at Tewksbury State Hospital. On Thursday it did just that.  The decision came just months after the state trained and issued the security team the equipment. The increased security measures were implemented in the wake of an I-Team investigation that uncovered unsafe conditions and thousands of calls to police for help. Nurse says patients, staff at risk Ryan Wilkins is a registered nurse at Tewksbury State Hospital. “I think it’s incredibly unsafe and dangerous,” Wilkins told the I-Team, furious that the state is taking away tactical equipment from campus security. It’s a decision that he says is leaving the staff and patients vulnerable to serious injury. “We have a security force inside of our building that responds within seconds to our calls for help and to help intervene in behavioral situations,” Wilkins said. “We need their assistance, and we need them to be amply equipped to be able to do that job.” Tewksbury is a public hospital with a growing mental health population and treats some of the most dangerous and mentally ill patients.

Trump removes US Attorney General Pam Bondi

Newsroom with staff discussing a breaking news headline stating 'Pam Bondi Fired' on screens.

US President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi – a longtime ally and fierce defender of his administration – from her post as America’s top law enforcement officer. Trump praised her in a post on Truth Social and said she would be “transitioning” to a role in the private sector. Bondi’s time leading the justice department was often overshadowed by its handling of the release of files relating to Jeffrey Epstein and its investigation into the convicted sex offender. She is the second Trump administration official in recent weeks to be cut from her post, after Kristi Noem was ousted as homeland security chief in March.

Bondi will be replaced by her former deputy, Todd Blanche. Bondi said she would be “working tirelessly” to transfer her work to Blanche, adding that the job had “been the honour” of a lifetime. She added that in her new private sector position – which she did not identify – she would “continue fighting for President Trump and this administration”. The announcement comes less than two months after a combative congressional hearing in which Bondi was peppered with questions from lawmakers – at times descending into shouting matches in which she called one Democrat a “washed-up loser”. As recently as Thursday morning, Trump was defending Bondi, saying: “She is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job.” But hours later, Trump confirmed her departure on Truth Social, saying that her new private sector role would be “announced at a date in the near future”.

Big Bear eagles Jackie and Shadow see first pip of 2026 hatching season

bald eagle on tree

The nonprofit, which operates the widely viewed Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, said chirping sounds were heard from inside the egg beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing through the night, signaling the eaglet had broken through the internal membrane and taken its first breath of air. By Friday, observers identified what appeared to be a pip, indicating the hatching process is underway. “This indicates that the chick was able to break the internal membrane and took its first breath of air,” the organization shared in a social media update. “Today we spotted an apparent pip (breach in the eggshell) and hatching is in the works.” Wildlife experts note that once a pip appears, it can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours for the chick to fully emerge from the egg. Jackie and Shadow’s nesting season has drawn global attention through the live camera feed, with viewers closely following each stage from egg-laying to hatching and eventual fledging.

Hegseth ousts Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George

historic wwii tank at normandy in france

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to step down and take immediate retirement, sources familiar with the decision told CBS News.  One of the sources said Hegseth wants someone in the role who will implement President Trump and Hegseth’s vision for the Army.  Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement that George “will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately. The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation. We wish him well in his retirement.”

A senior Defense Department official told CBS News, “We are grateful for his service, but it was time for a leadership change in the Army.”  George previously served as the senior military assistant to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from 2021 to 2022, during the Biden administration, after decades of service. A career infantry officer and West Point graduate, George first served in the first Gulf War and the more recent conflicts of Iraq and Afghanistan.  The Army chief of staff typically serves a four-year term. George was nominated for the position by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate in 2023, meaning he would typically have held the position until 2027.

Iran announces new strikes on U.S., Israeli targets hours ahead of Trump speech as he threatens to pull U.S. out of NATO

Busy newsroom with journalists working while a large screen displays BREAKING NEWS: IRAN.

What to know about the Iran war today: President Trump will deliver an update on the Iran war Wednesday night after saying he expects to end U.S. operations in two to three weeks. Mr. Trump is also expected to say that the U.S. military is meeting or exceeding its operational benchmarks, a White House official told CBS News. Iran announced a new wave of strikes on U.S. and Israeli targets hours ahead of Mr. Trump’s remarks.

Energy and stock markets reacted positively to Mr. Trump’s remarks about the war, with oil falling back below $100 per barrel despite Iran’s threat to target U.S. tech companies and warnings that leaving the Strait of Hormuz under Tehran’s control could cause lingering pain for the global economy. Mr. Trump has told Britain’s Telegraph newspaper he could attempt to pull the U.S. out of the transatlantic NATO alliance it’s led for more than seven decades, as he vents frustration at America’s closest allies for declining to join the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Mr. Trump is expected to criticize NATO in his prime-time address, a source told CBS News.

Christian Persecution News Roundup: March 25–April 1, 2026

Newsroom reporting BREAKING NEWS: MAJOR EARTHQUAKE STRIKES with staff at computer monitors.

Christian persecution made headlines this Holy Week, with violent attacks in Nigeria dominating coverage alongside targeted incidents in South Asia and restrictions in the Holy Land. Advocacy groups like International Christian Concern (ICC), Open Doors, and Aid to the Church in Need highlighted ongoing patterns of violence, mob attacks, and surveillance. Here are the key verified developments from the past seven days:

Nigeria: Palm Sunday Massacre in Jos

  • Gunmen attacked the predominantly Christian community of Angwan Rukuba (Ungwan Rukuba) in Jos North, Plateau State, on Palm Sunday (March 29–30). Reports confirm at least 30–53 Christians killed in the assault, which targeted villagers near a market/church area; some accounts mention machetes and gunfire. This fits a pattern of repeated attacks on Christian farming communities. persecution.org +1
  • The incident is part of escalating violence in the region, with ICC and Open Doors noting it as one of the deadliest Holy Week events. A U.S. senator (Ted Cruz) publicly warned that Nigerian officials are enabling such persecution through inaction and Sharia policies, stating Washington has identified enablers and has sanction tools ready. punchng.com
  • Local bishops described Holy Week as “not history, it is reality” for Nigerian Christians amid ongoing killings, church attacks, and displacement. churchinneed.org

Nepal: Hindu Mob Attacks Christians

  • On March 23 (reported March 31), a Hindu mob in Rautahat district confronted three Christians sharing the gospel, dragged them to a police station, and accused them of proselytizing. The incident underscores rising hostility toward religious minorities in Nepal. persecution.org

Pakistan: Christian Man Dies After Alleged Torture

  • A 22-year-old Christian man was found dead at a farmhouse in Punjab on or around March 27. Reports allege torture; the case has fueled concerns over systemic mistreatment of Christians in the country. persecution.org

Jerusalem (Holy Land): Restrictions on Palm Sunday Worship

  • On March 30 (Palm Sunday), Israeli forces denied Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa entry to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, preventing him from celebrating Mass. The International Christian Justice and Peace (ICJP) condemned it as religious persecution and an affront to freedom at one of Christianity’s holiest sites. Similar tensions were noted in Gaza and Syria. icjpalestine.com

Iran: Ongoing Pressure on Converts

  • Open Doors reported continued arrests, surveillance, and “propaganda against national security” charges against Christian converts. At least 48 believers remain imprisoned, with digital monitoring intensifying amid regional conflicts. opendoorsus.org

Other Regional Notes

  • DRC (Ituri Province): Recent attacks by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed around 50 people and displaced over 31,600 in mid-March; news broke widely this week with calls for prayer. opendoorsuk.org
  • Broader context from Open Doors and ICC: Over 388 million Christians face high persecution globally (1 in 7), with sub-Saharan Africa seeing extreme violence. No new full World Watch List update this week, but Holy Week reports emphasized prayer for the persecuted church. thecommonsense.co.za

These stories reflect persistent patterns of violence (especially in Africa), mob intimidation (South Asia), and official restrictions. Advocacy organizations continue to call for international attention and support. For full details, refer to the primary reports from ICC, Open Doors, and local outlets. Developments can evolve quickly, particularly in Nigeria.

Abortion News Roundup: March 25–April 1, 2026

pregnant woman standing and holding usg picture

Here’s a focused summary of the key abortion-related developments from the past seven days, based on legislative activity, court-adjacent races, and fresh data. Activity remains centered on medication abortion restrictions, state-level enforcement, and national incidence trends post-Dobbs.

National Data Update

  • The Guttmacher Institute released full-year 2025 abortion incidence data showing remarkable stability: approximately 1,126,000 abortions provided by clinicians nationwide—nearly identical to 2024’s 1,124,000. While out-of-state travel declined, telehealth provision to patients in total-ban states continued to rise sharply, offsetting restrictions. Analysts noted abortion numbers have remained steady or slightly increased despite bans in 13 states and early limits in others. ballsandstrikes.org +1

Federal Legislative and Political Developments

  • Sen. Josh Hawley’s mifepristone ban bill: The Missouri Republican’s legislation to force the FDA to withdraw approval of the primary abortion pill (mifepristone) and allow patient lawsuits against manufacturers gained attention. House Republicans are reportedly distancing themselves from the measure ahead of the 2026 midterms, with many avoiding public endorsement despite party platform alignment. plannedparenthoodaction.org +1
  • Senate Republicans voted to block abortion access provisions for veterans and their families. plannedparenthoodaction.org
  • A new congressional bill introduced this week uses environmental protection language to target medication abortion. It would require patients using abortion pills to employ medical waste kits (based on disputed water pollution claims) and explicitly ban telehealth abortion care—moves described by reproductive rights groups as surveillance and restriction tactics. instagram.com

State-Level Actions

  • Arizona: GOP lawmakers advanced HB 2364, which would make it a Class 4 felony (presumptive 2½ years in prison) for doctors, pharmacists, manufacturers, or suppliers to mail abortion-inducing drugs into the state. The bill also targets those seeking the medications. Critics question its constitutionality and interstate commerce implications. kjzz.org
  • Tennessee: Legislation allowing civil lawsuits against out-of-state suppliers of abortion pills passed the House and returned to the Senate. Medication abortion now accounts for roughly 65% of U.S. procedures. newschannel9.com
  • Wisconsin: The upcoming Supreme Court race between liberal candidate Chris Taylor (former Planned Parenthood law and policy director) and conservative Maria Lazar highlighted stark abortion divides. Taylor supports reproductive rights; Lazar opposes them. The contest is drawing national attention as a potential bellwether. jsonline.com
  • Montana: Ongoing litigation around HB 937 involves new rules singling out “abortion clinics” for regulations not applied to miscarriage treatment providers. juddocumentservice.mt.gov

Other Circulating Notes

  • Pro-life advocates highlighted data showing Massachusetts’ abortion rate more than doubled due to mail-order abortion pills, underscoring the national shift toward telehealth and out-of-state sourcing. @LiveActionNews
  • Broader commentary continues on threats to mifepristone access, including potential pharmacy dispensing limits and travel requirements in ongoing lawsuits. facebook.com

No major new court rulings or ballot measures emerged this week, but the Guttmacher data and targeted medication-abortion bills dominated coverage. These stories reflect continued post-Dobbs adaptation on both sides—stable national numbers alongside aggressive state and federal pushback on pills and telehealth. Developments are moving quickly; check primary sources for updates.

The Army said Monday that it has launched a review after singer and rapper Kid Rock shared a video to social media that shows a pair of Apache helicopters flying outside of his Tennessee house, in what an Army official confirmed to CBS News was a training flight. Maj. Montrell Russell, a spokesman for the Army, said in a statement the Army is aware of the video that shows AH-64 Apache helicopters operating near Kid Rock’s house, located near Nashville.

“Army aviators must adhere to strict safety standards, professionalism, and established flight regulations,” Russell said. “An administrative review is underway to assess the mission and verify compliance with regulations and airspace requirements. Appropriate action will be taken if any violations are found.” Maj. Jonathon Bless, a spokesperson for the 101st Airborne Division, said the command has opened an investigation “to review the circumstances surrounding this activity.”

Democrats decry ‘smear’ as Trump FBI pushes for release of Eric Swalwell file

detectives in tilt shift lens

The Trump administration has reportedly been pushing to release records from an FBI investigation related to Eric Swalwell and alleged links to a Chinese agent as the Democratic congressman makes gains in the California governor’s race. The Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing “three people familiar with the effort”, that the FBI director, Kash Patel, is pushing to release the files, even though there is no public evidence of wrongdoing on Swalwell’s part.

The records stem from a decade-old investigation into a suspected spy who had developed relationships with US politicians and assisted Swalwell with fundraising. An FBI official previously said Swalwell was cooperative with the investigation and was not suspected of wrongdoing. He cut off contact with the woman after speaking to the FBI. The profile of Swalwell, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump who served as a congressional manager during the president’s second impeachment trial, has risen as the contest for California governor takes shape. The field of candidates to replace Gavin Newsom is crowded, with at least eight Democrats, including Swalwell, and two Republicans.

America’s prettiest city overrun with homeless ‘drug zombies’ under nightmare woke mayor

person holding silver and green scissors

An idyllic city known for its historic buildings and Southern charm has been beset by homelessness and drug use under a Democratic mayor. Savannah, Georgia, has long been promoted as one of America’s prettiest cities, with more than 20 public squares framed by churches, town houses and other historic buildings covered in Spanish moss. But when Dennis Lennox, a travel reporter for the Christian Post, returned to the city last year, he said he found it overrun by homeless individuals who engaged in overt drug use.

‘Benches and bushes served as makeshift encampments,’ he wrote in a column on Sunday. ‘In several places, the smell of marijuana hung in the air.’ At Reynolds Square, where a bronze statue honors the founder of Methodism, Lennox said he saw obvious drug use. ‘People injected and smoked in broad daylight,’ he wrote. ‘The odor was unmistakable. There was no police presence.’ Similar scenes sprang up across the city, according to Lennox. ‘A leisurely stroll, particularly in the early morning, became an exercise in caution; watching where to step, skirting encampments and avoiding potential confrontation.’

Trump administration sues Minnesota for allowing trans athletes in girls’ sports

woman in blue and white basketball jersey holding brown basketball

The US Department of Justice sued Minnesota’s education department and the state’s school athletics body on Monday for allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports. In a lawsuit, the justice department claims that by making female student athletes compete against transgender girls, as well as share locker rooms and bathrooms with them, Minnesota is violating Title IX – the federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination for any programs that receive federal funding. “Minnesota’s policies and practices create unfair competition, deny girls equal educational opportunities, and expose girls to a hostile educational environment with heightened risks of physical injury and psychological harm,” the justice department argues in the suit filed on Monday. Minnesota has fought against the Trump administration’s efforts to remove transgender athletes from girls’ sports.

Thousands of Catholics went to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City to celebrate Palm Sunday Mass and mark the start of 2026 Holy Week, the first under Archbishop Ronald Hicks.  Palms inside the Midtown Manhattan cathedral recall the story or Jesus entering Jerusalem, where crowds laid palm branches before him. For Hicks, who was installed in February following Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s retirement, celebrating his first Palm Sunday on Fifth Avenue served as a reminder of the transformation Holy Week stands for.  “What happened, these mysteries we celebrate, gives us the path to salvation, eternal life. It’s the greatest gift ever,” Hicks said. “We celebrated well today, with joy, with prayer, with a great sense of faith.”

There are only two months until the DFL party’s nominating convention in Rochester, Minnesota. One of the most heated DFL races is for U.S. Senate, where two successful elected officials, Rep. Angie Craig and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, are running against each other for the seat. One of the most heated issues remains immigration, where Craig has walked back her support for the Laken Riley Act. Craig was one of 46 House Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act in January 2025. The act was passed in the aftermath of the murder of Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student. The act mandates that undocumented workers be held in custody for theft-related crimes pending any criminal proceedings, even when there has not been a conviction.

Riverside County Sheriff says his election fraud investigation put on hold by “politically motivated lawsuits”

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said Sunday that his election fraud investigation into the Proposition 50 Special Election last fall has come to a halt due to legal challenges from the California attorney general.  Earlier in March, Bianco, who is running for governor, seized more than 611,000 ballots from the special election in which voters approved a redistricting measure that shifted five of California’s Republican-held seats in the U.S. House of Representatives to be more favorable to Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. He says a citizens group pointed out a 45,000-ballot discrepancy between the number of votes that were counted and the number of votes that were cast.  “This investigation is simple: Physically count the ballots and compare that result with the total votes reported,” Bianco said during a press conference after the ballots were seized.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Tom Homan says ICE will keep assisting TSA “until the airports feel like they are 100%”

Tom Homan, the Trump administration border czar, said Sunday that although President Trump signed an order to pay Transportation Security Administration workers, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will continue to assist “until the airports feel like they are 100%.”  “Look, we’re going to continue a nice presence there, and until the airports feel like they’re 100%, you know, in a posture where they can do no normal operations,” Homan said Sunday on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.”  Congress has yet to approve funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which has been shut down for more than 40 days. Early Friday morning, the Senate passed a bill to fund DHS that did not include money for ICE and other immigration removal. The House rejected that bill and instead passed its own version, which would extend funding for the entire department, including ICE, for 60 days. The dueling bills leave the shutdown without an end in sight.

Judge dismisses DOJ lawsuit over Minnesota in-state tuition for students without legal status, leaving US Citizens to Foot the Bill

judge signing on the papers

Minnesota public universities can continue to offer in-state tuition and scholarships to some immigrants in the country without legal status, a federal judge ruled on Friday, dismissing a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice last summer that attempted to halt the programs. The decision follows a series of clashes between the federal government and Minnesota officials over immigration enforcement. United States District Judge Katherine Menendez said in her decision that the federal government failed to prove that programs offering in-state tuition for immigrants without legal status discriminated against U.S. citizens.
