The Light in the Dark (part 6)

Let Your Light Shine

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior there will be times when we mess up. We are human, not perfect, there was only one man that was perfect and He is in heaven with the Father. There will be those that will point out that you are a hypocrite, usually it is yourself more than others. There is a set of verses that is in the bible right after one of the most popular verses in scripture. The verse let us know that Jesus came to save us in John 3:16 and in the next two verses we are reassured that He came to be our mediator. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. He who believes in him is not judged. John 3:17-18 WEB

There will be times when we mess up but if we keep putting one foot in front of the other He will always be there. Let your light shine and don’t worry about a little stumble, it happens: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin 1 John 1:7 ESV In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 ESV

Be Prepared

I talk a lot about reading the bible and I cannot say it enough the only way to stay in the light is to know where it is. In the bible it talks about the need to test the spirits to make sure that they are from God 1 John 4:1. We have been warned the devil poses as an angel of light 2 Corinthians 11:14. So the only way to discern, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, what is from God is to know the owners manual that He has given us.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear, having a good conscience. Thus, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ. 1 Peter 3:15-16 WEB

Choose Your Light

We have a choice to make in our lives that will determine our eternal life, follow Jesus or follow the world. He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. John 4:9-10

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. James 1:13-16 ESV

Human Behavior

We, Humans, have a tendency to not take responsibility for actions even at times blaming others for what we have done. We are in a relationship and we can never do wrong never accepting that we might also be 50% of the problem. We get pulled over and get a ticket because we were speeding, we argue with the officer because we know we were not. We are fishing and take that one extra fish, we get checked by the Game Warden and receive a fine. We then try to argue and reason with the officer even though we made the decision to keep the extra fish.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some actions that have taken place that we have had no control over. But if we keep walking in what happened to us in the past we’ll never leave those circumstances. Let’s look at the positive and negative actions of this focus. The positive; because history has a way of repeating itself we remember these things so that we’ll try to make sure they never happen again. The negative; sometimes we have a tendency to focus on this bad and never see anything else, I do this sometimes. This mindset is hard to get out of once we have put ourselves there. This will keep us in a state of always being victimized, not allowing us to move beyond what happened.

What the Bible Says

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 3:13-14 WEB And they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:26 ESV For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13 ESV

Some advice

I have Multiple Sclerosis and with all of the issues that get tossed at me on a daily basis I have done two things that has always kept me afloat. I always pray and I always try to find at least one positive thing that happened in the bad. These two things have helped me get through not being able to walk for awhile, see and hear. The positive is that it comes and goes, there are a lot of things I used to do I cannot do anymore. But I got new things that I would have never done if I would not have gotten the MS.

He’s Got This

Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 WEB

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB

Your Not of This World

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 WEB

His Light is Becoming Brighter

Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour. 1 John 2:18 WEB

Fighting the Dark

Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God,

that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood,

but against the principalities,

against the powers,

against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age,

and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having the utility belt of truth buckled around your waist,

and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace,

above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.

And take the helmet of salvation,

and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit,

and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints Ephesians 6:10-18 WEB

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for guiding my footsteps when life has seemed its darkest You have always carried me through. In Jesus Name Amen

Choices

When we become aware of who we are at a young age we have to start making choices. As a baby, even though we will not remember, we made the choice to first pull ourselves up, start to crawl and finally walk. Each decision we make no matter how small has some kind of consequence positive or negative.

We are hungry and want to grab something to eat. We could go to a fast food restaurant or could cook a meal. The positive of the fast food; it is quick and you don’t have to do the work. The negative; you do not know what is in the food that you are eating and the ingredients that are used are not good for your body. In the long run you’ll have the possibility of getting heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and few other conditions. Eating out also costs more than eating a homemade meal.

The positives of eating a home cooked meal. You can make something that you like, that tastes good, it is healthy and you have control of the ingredients. Eating at home costs less and you can use higher quality food. The negative of homemade, it takes time to cook, you have to do the work, and you have to clean up the mess.

Choose Your Light

We have a choice to make in our lives that will determine our eternal life, follow Jesus or follow the world. He who believes in him is not judged. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.” John 3:18-21 WEB

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. The Walk

This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:5-9 WEB

To open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ Acts 26:18 WEB

As the light is being shed on all of the chaos. It is creating doubt making us stop and wonder why and how can people not see what is going on. Some have become so delusional that they are praising what is going on as being good. There are attacks on our children, our families, and values.

All of the distractions, are leading us away from the direction that Jesus told us we are a “a light to the world.” We need to stop covering the light. No matter how dark it seems or is we should never let the dark cover our light. Uncover and find that light, shout it out and let it shine.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 WEB

This has all been prophesied throughout the Bible the surest and only way to navigate through every thing that is going on is to follow the map we have been given, the Bible. We have Jesus’ words and the Holy Spirit as our personal guides.

That was a little of my commentary but this is what the bible says (God’s words)

He’s Got This

Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials, that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:6-7 WEB

He Chose You

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and without defect before him in love, having predestined us for adoption as children through Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his desire Ephesians 1:3-5 WEB

God is Faithful

But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 WEB

Your Not of This World

For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him; knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over him! For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:5-11 WEB

His Light is Becoming Brighter

But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron, forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 1 Timothy 4:1-3 WEB

How to Fight the Dark

Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God,

that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood,

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him. Sometimes we look around and wonder what is going on, I do. The confusion, all the things that make us stop and shake our heads are being praised as being good. Attacks on our children, our families, and values.

It seems like the more offensive it is the greater it is being praised. Crime is up all over the world. There are leaders that are only looking out for their own interests and not that of the people they are in charge of. There are wars and rumors of wars. It seems to be coming from all sides:

  1. Our Children
  2. Sickness

The Light in the Dark (part 1)

light in the dark

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God’s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light “day”, and the darkness he called “night”. There was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:1-5 WEB

From the beginning God divided the darkness from the light, we are told the earth was formless and empty. When God created the light it separated the dark void that was surrounding everything. The first move God made was light and when it was complete after seeing what He’d done He was pleased and knew the light was good.

A Quick Thought

Imagine a scenario in which you are lost in a forest during a cloudy night where the moon cannot give you its light. You don’t have your smartphone to be used as a flashlight. It is so dark that you cannot see the hand in front of your face. There is simply no light to be found. As you are wandering through the dark forest, you have now traveled so far that you have forgotten which direction you have come from.

Suddenly off in the distance appears a man making his way through the forest with his flashlight. Knowing that he may be able to help, you carefully make your way to him. Upon meeting the man with the flashlight he instructs you that he is very familiar with the forest and that he is able to help you navigate out of the forest back to your house. All that you need to do is follow him as he shines his light for you to see. The question I want to ask you is – will you follow this man who is able to give you light, or will you continue to walk in the dark though you know that the man with the light could lead you home?

So it is with our walk with Christ. Our knowledge of the light will do us no good unless we follow the light; unless we walk in the light of God.

God has always separated the light from the dark. This is why you can never go wrong when you follow and focus on the light! When we look away from the light and pay attention to the darkness eventually we will not see the light but become overwhelmed by the dark. We will start to believe the lies that are being whispered in our ears. As everything becomes heavier and heavier it’ll seem that we cannot take another breath.

Always remember God created the light, He divided the light from the dark. It has not changed since the first day He created the earth. We need some sort of light for everything. It is an essential part of life on earth. Plants need light to grow, and search for any small amount of light when there is none.

Sun-light is a key energy source for all plants. Through a process called photosynthesis, plants absorb energy from the sun, which fuels the processes necessary for their survival.

Humans need light to get vitamins, improve heal and mental well-being.

Sunlight is essential for human health and well-being. The health benefits of sunlight include generating the production of vitamin D, supporting bone health, lowering blood pressure, preventing disease, and promoting good mental health.

Don’t Believe Everything you Hear

Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 WEB

Your Not Alone

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB

Your Not of This World

Nothing is Impossible

nothing impossible

dry bones

Dear Heavenly Father, I don’t mean to sound doubtful or disrespectful, but Lord I have prayed for my friends and family for so many years. Lord; thank you for giving me this encouragement this morning, what an awesome message to hear. Lord I pray that You pour Your Spirit out on them open their lungs so they can breathe You in. Open their eyes remove the scales so that they can see, Lord guide every step that they take. I know nothing is impossible with You and it all happens in Your time. I admit that I am impatient sometimes please help me to see every situation the way You see it so that my knowledge of these issues only grow more and more every day. In Jesus Name Amen.

The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet a vast army. Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37 1:14 ESV

Marriage

marriage

A Serious Proposition

marriage

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22 ESV

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 ESV

Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage. No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That’s how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of his body. And this is why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. No longer two, they become “one flesh.” This is a huge mystery, and I don’t pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband. Ephesians 5:25-33 (MSG)

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)

Bringing in 2020

Dear Heavenly Father, as I enter a new year and another decade please guide every foot step that I take. Show me how to be a light to everyone that needs it while helping me to see things the way You do. In Zechariah 2:5 (AMP) You tell Jerusalem that you will protect them: “For I, declares the Lord, will be a wall of fire around her [protecting her from enemies], and I will be the glory in her midst.” Lord put that wall of fire around me, my family, and friends giving us your almighty protection. As this new year and decade begin help me to recognize those who are trying to deceive me (Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 ESV) When presented with the many options that come my way show me Your ways so that I do not conform to this world (Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 ESV) Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. Psalm 86:11 ESV for you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me; Psalm 31:3 ESV Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Psalm 25:4-5 ESV Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. Psalm 5:8 ESV In Jesus Name Amen

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV

Leadership

When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. John 13:12-15 (ESV)

Throughout the bible we are told to help tend His flock; the broken hearted, widows, children, and hurting people. We have been instructed to serve and not be served, to Love even when you are hated, and to hope even when it seems hopeless.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to lead the way that You lead, to see the way that You see, to feel the way You feel. Lord surround Your leaders with that impenetrable fiery wall of protection You put around Jerusalem, cover them with Your blood and fill them with the Holy Spirit directing every step they take. In Jesus Name Amen

Who is Jesus?

Dear Heavenly Father, let me always see who You are see things through Your eyes. Help me to personally know You through the word, be my light in the darkness Lord. You were here in the beginning and have the answers to all of the questions that I have. Thank You Lord for your gift, Your sacrifice and Your love! In Jesus Name Amen.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6-7

Ask Don’t Get Tossed

Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You needing direction and understanding. I am here without blame, accusation and without reservation Lord. Please give me wisdom and empathy to see the path that You want me to travel, to accept Your answer no matter what it is knowing that it is Your will. In Jesus Name Amen

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6 ESV

The Vision of Jesus

Dear Heavenly Father, please be our guide through this study of the Seven Churches in Revelation. Show us Your meaning not one skewed with our thoughts and experience, but only Your thoughts. In Jesus Name Amen.

Sitting in a jail cell gives one extra time to think, ponder life and pray. John was in Patmos serving time for unlawfully sharing the message of Jesus Christ in Ephesus. The Jewish elite, because of Roman persecution, had thrown Christians under the bus to Domitian, a Roman Emperor. The elite said because the Christians taught the reality of who Jesus was that He came to earth to save us all, and was raised after three days from the dead. It would cause dire consequences to the Roman Empire. At this time if this message was shared it could be, if permitted, jail time and even death. In a time of meditation and prayer, in the “Spirit”, John heard a loud voice behind him. Picture that you are in a room all by yourself all is silent and all of a sudden “WRITE WHAT YOU SEE”, super loud. Do you think he jumped? Maybe a scream? I know what I would have done, my head would hit the ceiling, it would have been a good thing it was Jesus Christ because I would of probably needed a head wound healed.

Now after taking a moment to regain a little composure, if at all, he turns around to someone standing there surrounded by lampstands. Looking like royalty, white hair, flames in His eyes, and when He spoke it was deafening. He was holding seven stars in His hand, when He would speak out of His would came a double edge sword, and the light coming off of Him was bright enough John could not stand to look at Him for too long. You know someone you would expect to see in a prison cell. John says “I feel at His feet as though I was dead”, immediately a hand of comfort reaches out and says” Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore”. He lets John know I am Jesus, I am here, and everything is all right. My children need to hear some things and I need you to write them down and deliver it to them.

In this journey through the vision of the seven churches of Revelation we will see the love that our God has for us. You will see that with fulfilling the prophesy of coming to earth, being crucified, and raised from the dead three days later; did not mean that He then ascended to Heaven put His feet up sat back on His throne and said “I am good now take care of it”. No; He came down once more and said hey, I love you and you did not hear what I said, you need to take care of this our we will not be able to see each other. The message that He left to the Seven Churches still resonates today, in some aspects more now then back when the Revelation was given to John. We will see how some would twist the word for personal gain; others would get to comfortable and think they could do it better then God. Groups that would try to justify their sin through the teaching of Christ, and a few that use deceitfulness to try and destroy what Jesus had done for them. With the warnings and acknowledgments that are given in these seven letters we can see that if we apply them to our lives it will make our walk with Christ even closer then you could have ever imagined.

Vision of the Son of Man

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”

Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Write therefore the things that you have seen those that are and those that are to take place after this. As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. Revelation 1:9-20 (ESV)

When it Seems to Hard

Dear Heavenly Father, it seems like lately I cannot catch a break. Lord take away this darkness that surrounds me and cover me in you light. I release gloom that has been on me I give it to You, make my bones strong and guide my every step so I can be Your spring whose waters never fail. In Jesus Name Amen

Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:9-11 (ESV)

Sardis/Sart

Sardis

A city of Asia Minor , and capital of Lydia, situated about two miles to the south of the river Hermus, just below the range of Tmolus, on a spur of which its Acropolis was built. It was 60 miles northeast of Smyrna. It was the ancient residence of the kings of Lydia, among them Croesus, proverbial for his immense wealth. Cyrus is said to have taken $600,000,000 worth of treasure form the city when he captured it, B.C. 548.
Sardis was, in very early times, both from the extremely fertile character of the neighboring region, and from its convenient position, a commercial mart of importance. The art of dyeing wool is said to have been invented there. In the year 214 B.C., it was taken and sacked by the army of Antiochus, the Great. Afterward, it passed under the dominion of the kings of Pergamos. Its productive soil must always have continued a source of wealth; but its importance as a central mart appears to have diminished, from the time of the invasion of Asia by Alexander.
The massive temple of Cybele still bears witness, in its fragmentary remains, to the wealth and architectural skill of the people that raised it. On the north side of the Acropolis, overlooking the valley of the Hermus, is a theatre nearly 400 feet in diameter, attached to a stadium of about 1000 feet. There are still considerable remains of the ancient city at Sart. Travelers describe the appearance of the locality as that of complete solitude. The only passage in which it is mentioned in the Bible is Rev_3:1-6.

The ancient city was noted for its fruits and wool, and for its temple of the goddess Cybele, whose worship resembled that of Diana of Ephesus. Its wealth was also partly due to the gold which was found in the sand of the river Pactolus, and it was here that gold and silver coins were first struck. During the Roman period its coins formed a beautiful series, and are found in abundance by the peasants who till the surrounding fields. The ruins of the buildings which stood at the base of the hill have now been nearly buried by the dirt washed down from above. The hill upon which the acropolis stood measures 950 ft. high: the triple walls still surround it. The more imposing of the ruins are on the lower slope of the hill, and among them the temple of Cybele is the most interesting, yet only two of its many stone columns are still standing.

Teaching of Balaam

The Teaching of Balaam

As the Israelites were moving across and procuring the land that God had told them was going to be their home King Balak and other kings were afraid and called on Balaam to curse the Israelites. Numbers 22:2-5  And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was in great dread of the people, because they were many. Moab was overcome with fear of the people of Israel. And Moab said to the elders of Midian, “This horde will now lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” So Balak the son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time, sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor at Pethor. We see in Joshua 13:22 Balaam also, the son of Beor, the one who practiced divination, Balaam has made a reputation for himself and is why they would call on him. Further in Numbers 22:7-11 we are told that; the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the fees for divination in their hand. And they came to Balaam and gave him Balak’s message. And he said to them, “Lodge here tonight, and I will bring back word to you, as the Lord speaks to me.” So the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. And God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?” And Balaam said to God, “Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, Behold, a people has come out of Egypt, and it covers the face of the earth. Now come, curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and drive them out.” As you can see they did not get the answer that they wanted so the kings tried over and over again offering more and more money. In fact because of it God one upped those that were trying to curse the Israelites; Deu 23:4-5 because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loved you. But before the Israelites left this area some conformed to the culture of the area; Num 25:1-3  While Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to whore with the daughters of Moab.  These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.  So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. 2 Peter 2:13-15 They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing. This angered God; Numbers 25:3-5 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel. And the Lord said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them in the sun before the Lord, that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.” And Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.” Numbers 31:16 16 Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord. Joshua 13:22 Balaam also, the son of Beor, the one who practiced divination, was killed with the sword by the people of Israel among the rest of their slain. Back in the past God did not mess around that is why we are warned; Jude 1:11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion.

Baal

BAAL

An idol among the ancient Chaldeans and Syrians, representing the sun. The word signifies also lord, or commander; and the character of the idol was varied by different nations, at different times. Thus Baal Berith is supposed to signify the Lord of the Covenant; Baal Peor, or rather Baal Phegor, the Lord of the dead. Ps. cvi, Baal Zebub, the god of flies.

As the Sun-god, Baal was worshipped under two aspects, beneficent and destructive. On the one hand he gave light and warmth to his worshippers; on the other hand the fierce heats of summer destroyed the vegetation he had himself brought into being. Hence, human victims were sacrificed to him in order to appease his anger in time of plague or other trouble, the victim being usually the first-born of the sacrificer and being burnt alive.

Divination

Divination

Divination is “foretelling future events, or discovering things secret by the aid of superior beings, or other than human means”. It is used, in Scripture, of false systems of ascertaining the divine will. It has been universal in all ages, and all nations alike, both civilized and savage.

Numerous forms of divination are mentioned, such as
divination by rods, Hos_4:12,
divination by arrows, Eze_21:21,
divination by cups, Gen_44:5,
consultation of teraphim (images), 1Sa_15:23; Eze_21:21; Zec_10:2,
divination by the liver, Eze_21:21,
divination by dreams, Deu_13:2-3; Jdg_7:13; Jer_23:32, and
consultation of oracles. Isa_41:21-24; Isa_44:7.

Moses forbade every species of divination, because, a prying into the future, clouds the mind with superstition, and because, it would have been an incentive to idolatry. But God supplied his people with substitutes for divination which would have rendered it superfluous, and left them in no doubt as to his will in circumstances of danger, had they continued faithful. It was only when they were unfaithful that the revelation was withdrawn.

Korah/Because Good was not Good Enough

In Numbers 16 we read about Korah and how he deemed that what Moses was doing was not right, saying Gods plan was wrong. He claimed that Moses was leading them only for personal gain. Numbers 16:3 “You have gone too far! For all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?” He was able to stir up opposition between 250 others and started a rebellion. Of the 250 there were those who wanted to regain a certain amount of social status. Korah was part of the Levites; they were able to be close to God all the time but that was still not enough. Numbers 16:7 You have gone too far, sons of Levi!” And Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi: is it too small a thing for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do service in the tabernacle of the Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to them, 10 and that he has brought you near him, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you? And would you seek the priesthood also? 11 Therefore it is against the Lord that you and all your company have gathered together. Some were Reubenites that had been shamed by what their father had done Chronicles 5:1 The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son. And in Numbers16: 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and they said, “We will not come up. 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also make yourself a prince over us? 14 Moreover, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.”

This angered God and Moses fell to his face and prayed 22  “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?” Because of this plea God told them to 24 “tell the congregation, Get away from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.” So the Israelites did and the three families came out prepared to hear receive Gods judgement, 28 And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works, and that it has not been of my own accord. 29 If these men die as all men die, or if they are visited by the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me. 30 But if the Lord creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol (hell), then you shall know that these men have despised the Lord.”

31 And as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart. 32 And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the people who belonged to Korah and all their goods. 33 So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. 34 And all Israel who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up!” 35 And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men offering the incense. Could you imagine seeing this happen right in front of your face? Why would you ever want to question the plans that God has laid out for you? But would you believe that even after that there were 14700 people who still questioned the path that God had for them to travel. 41 But on the next day all the congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and against Aaron, saying, “You have killed the people of the Lord.” This angered God and again Moses and Aaron stood up for them and interceded for them. 45.” And they fell on their faces. 46 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire on it from off the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.” 47 So Aaron took it as Moses said and ran into the midst of the assembly. And behold, the plague had already begun among the people. And he put on the incense and made atonement for the people. 48 And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped. 49 Now those who died in the plague were 14,700, besides those who died in the affair of Korah. 50 And Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance of the tent of meeting, when the plague was stopped.

Don’t Knock the White Hair

When I read the bible I like to break it down into verses phrases, and words. While I was reading the first chapter of Revelation around verse 14 I noticed John described what he saw. As he began he explained that he saw one like the son of man with hair as white as snow. So I wanted to look up any references to white hair in the bible and this is what I found:

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life .Proverbs 16:31 ESV

All that have Ears

Dear Heavenly Father, Lord give me the understanding to be able to comprehend all that You have for me. Lord may my ears always be open to all that You have for me. The knowledge that You share with me is undeniably and unexplainedly the best most informative I could ask for, thank you. In Jesus Name Amen

Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. They are all straight to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, Proverbs 8:6-10

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. John 1-5, 14, 18

Just For You

Dear Heavenly Father, You have done so much for me, You surrendered Yourself for me, was beaten to a pulp before You were nailed and hung on a cross. To top it all off You have prepared a eternal home for me, you have forgiven all of my frailties, my insecurities, and understand what I have gone through. You hold my hand and walk with me down the path that I travel. My heart overflows with an unending love for You Lord, thank you. In Jesus Name Amen.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17
