Prayer In The Bible

There are so many Psalms that are singing, and crying out to God. These help comfort us as believers knowing that we are not the only ones dealing with the stuff of this world. I will read these in a first person perspective and turn them into prayers. I will show you how I do it. This is all to give glory to God.

Psalm 86 KJV

Dear Heavenly Father, Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy. Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me. Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.

All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.

Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast Holden me, and comforted me. Psalm 89 KJV Thank you Lord for listening. In Jesus Name Amen

Psalm 86 MSG

Dear Heavenly Father, Bend an ear, God; answer me. I’m one miserable wretch! Keep me safe—haven’t I lived a good life? Help your servant—I’m depending on you! You’re my God; have mercy on me. I count on you from morning to night. Give your servant a happy life;I put myself in your hands!

You’re well-known as good and forgiving, bighearted to all who ask for help.
Pay attention, God, to my prayer; bend down and listen to my cry for help. Every time I’m in trouble I call on you, confident that you’ll answer.

8-10 There’s no one quite like you among the gods, O Lord, and nothing to compare with your works. All the nations you made are on their way, ready to give honor to you, O Lord, Ready to put your beauty on display, parading your greatness, And the great things you do—God, you’re the one, there’s no one but you!

11-17 Train me, God, to walk straight; then I’ll follow your true path. Put me together, one heart and mind; then, undivided, I’ll worship in joyful fear. From the bottom of my heart I thank you, dear Lord; I’ve never kept secret what you’re up to. You’ve always been great toward me—what love!

You snatched me from the brink of disaster! God, these bullies have reared their heads! A gang of thugs is after me— and they don’t care a thing about you. But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit.

So look me in the eye and show kindness, give your servant the strength to go on, save your dear, dear child! Make a show of how much you love me so the bullies who hate me will stand there slack-jawed, As you, God, gently and powerfully put me back on my feet. Thank you Lord, In Jesus Name Amen.

Prayer In The Bible

There are so many Psalms that are singing, and crying out to God. I will read these in a first person perspective. I will show you how I do it. This is all for the praise of God.

Psalm 121

I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Yahweh is your keeper. Yahweh is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. Psalm 121 WEB

How I Turn it into a Prayer

When I read and pray this it will look like this:

Dear Heavenly Father, I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow my foot to be moved. He who keeps me will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Yahweh is my keeper. Yahweh is my shade on my right hand. The sun will not harm me by day, nor the moon by night. Yahweh will keep me from all evil. He will keep my soul. Yahweh will keep me going out and my coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. Thank you Lord for your protection. In Jesus Name Amen

Sometimes we look around and wonder why all of the junk that surrounds us is a continual onslaught that never seems to end. Sometimes we find ourselves asking, is this worth it?

There is an example we are given in the bible and when we read about everything that happened the faith shown was unmovable. This guy had everything taken from him, his wealth, his health, and his family. The example that I am talking about is Job.

Job followed God in a way that so many of us should strive to accomplish. We are told God said: for there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.” Job 1:8 WEB

In one day Job had everything taken from him:

  1. Cattle Job 1:14
  2. Transportation Job 1:17
  3. Children Job 1:18

We are told that we need to persevere, he’s got your back even when it doesn’t seem like it: We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28 WEB

Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. James 1:12 WEB

If we admit it our aspirations at times are different then God’s aspirations: Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death. Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers. James 1:13-16 WEB

Rest in the Lord wait for His direction and walk in His strength. Spread your wings and fly leaving the “stuff” that’s weighing you down and never looking back. Resting in the Lord would includes focusing on Him.

Praising Him and surrounding yourself in His word. Like any other exercise regiment the best way to keep up your strength is through repetitions. Always praise Him, always focus on Him, and always listen to the words He has given us.

Triumph

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow.

Thomas Paine

Patence

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 ESV

What God Wants

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10 ESV

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to have Job’s faith through all of the junk helping me understand. Help me to look into myself to show me the things that I need to change. In Jesus Name Amen

Validation

Call on Him praying and worshiping always. When you pray and worship you are talking to and praising God Himself. You know how much you appreciate it when those who you love talk to you and validate that you exist. Thinking about it in this perspective it gives a little insight into the relationship that is being built when doing both of these. Get to know Him, you will not regret it!

Daily Bread Psalm 119:105

Daily Verse

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this opportunity to look further into Your word so that I may understand who You are, where You are coming from and what You have for me. In Jesus Name Amen

In Psalm chapter 27 David reminds us that “The Lord is our light and salvation” so concluding this study into Psalm 27 we have the three translations in their entirety. Now that we know some of the deeper definitions of the words lets read them and you will see that it will be understood in a whole new light.

The Lord, who is the believer’s light, is the strength of his life; not only by whom, but in whom he lives and moves. In God let us strengthen ourselves. The gracious presence of God, his power, his promise, his readiness to hear prayer, the witness of his Spirit in the hearts of his people; these are the secret of his tabernacle, and in these the saints find cause for that holy security and peace of mind in which they dwell at ease. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

ESV

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help.

Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in. Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:1-14 ESV

MSG

Light, space, zest that’s God! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive, Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces. When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool. I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long.

I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet. That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic. God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to God. Listen, God, I’m calling at the top of my lungs: “Be good to me! Answer me!”

When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!” Don’t hide from me now! You’ve always been right there for me; don’t turn your back on me now. Don’t throw me out, don’t abandon me; you’ve always kept the door open. My father and mother walked out and left me, but God took me in.

Point me down your highway, God; direct me along a well-lighted street; show my enemies whose side you’re on. Don’t throw me to the dogs, those liars who are out to get me, filling the air with their threats. I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with God. Psalm 27:1-14 MSG

TPT

The Lord is my revelation-light to guide me along the way; he’s the source of my salvation to defend me every day. I fear no one! I’ll never turn back and run from you, Lord; surround and protect me. When evil ones come to destroy me, they will be the ones who turn back.

My heart will not be afraid even if an army rises to attack. I know that you are there for me, so I will not be shaken. Here’s the one thing I crave from God, the one thing I seek above all else: I want the privilege of living with him every moment in his house, finding the sweet loveliness of his face, filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace.

I want to live my life so close to him that he takes pleasure in my every prayer. In his shelter in the day of trouble, that’s where you’ll find me, for he hides me there in his holiness. He has smuggled me into his secret place, where I’m kept safe and secure out of reach from all my enemies.

Triumphant now, I’ll bring him my offerings of praise, singing and shouting with ecstatic joy! Yes, listen and you can hear the fanfare of my shouts of praise to the Lord! God, hear my cry. Show me your grace. Show me mercy, and send the help I need!

Lord, when you said to me, “Seek my face,” my inner being responded, “I’m seeking your face with all my heart.” So don’t hide yourself, Lord, when I come to find you. You’re the God of my salvation; how can you reject your servant in anger? You’ve been my only hope, so don’t forsake me now when I need you! My father and mother abandoned me.

I’m like an orphan! But you took me in and made me yours. Now teach me all about your ways and tell me what to do. Make it clear for me to understand, for I am surrounded by waiting enemies. Don’t let them defeat me, Lord. You can’t let me fall into their clutches!

They keep accusing me of things I’ve never done while they plot evil against me. Yet I totally trust you to rescue me one more time, so that I can see once again how good you are while I’m still alive! Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you! Psalm 27:1-14 TPT
